Over 20 Years....
Every Year, Flags have been given away in hometown parades and yards of homes on the 4th of July.
Many of the American Associates, Inc. Realtors have been involved in creating and organizing mapping systems to help assign groups to all the residential areas covered.
It's Been a Group Effort of Many People within our Local Community...
American Associates staff and Realtors, local church youth groups, AYSO, Band Boosters, Boyscouts, Girlscouts, community baseball and softball leagues and a number of other various youth groups and organizations help place flags in the yards of community residents. In return, the kids are paid 10 cents for each flag placed. The funds they earn go to numerous projects, summer camps, competitions, school trips, uniforms, etc. What ever they need, this project comes through for them every year.
Over 300 Hundred People...
Local business owners who donate funds, American Associates Realtors and staff, all of the kids, their parents and local organization leaders total well over 300 people who are involved in making this project possible.
Over 200 Volunteers...
Every year Krogers Groceries has donated pop and Hungry Howies of Swartz Creek has donated enough pizza's to feed over 200 volunteers on the flag distribution night.
We started with less than 600 flags placed in yards, in appreciation to the residents in Winchester Village of Swartz Creek, who had hired us and helped our company grow over 20 years ago.
40,000 Flags Annually...
Today American Associates, Inc. Realtors who makes a substantial effort and financial contribution themselves and local business owners who donate $100 each, purchase 40,000 Flags Annually!
Through the help of many people who volunteer their time and effort these 40,000 flags are given away in local hometown parades and placed in the yards of homes in just about every major subdivision all around west Genesee County at midnight, just before the 4th of July Holiday.
New Office in Grand Blanc...
With the opening of our newest office on Hill Rd, in Grand Blanc, Michigan. We are planning on carrying our Flag Give A Way Project into more of southern Genesee County. Our challenge has been the approval of local municipalities in Grand Blanc, who attempt to call the flag a sign, that they can regulate through their ordinances. The truth is its not a sign, its a flag and it represents so much more to so many people, than a simple sign in a local ordinance to be regulated by authorities.
Last year several hundred flags were placed along main street, then removed by Grand Blanc DPW workers, under the direction of the Grand Blanc Township Supervisor and Grand Blanc City Major. If you live in Grand Blanc and would like to see a Flag in your yard on the 4th of July, we need your help!
Your Voice Counts...
Yes, your voice does count and the more calls and letters Grand Blanc leaders receive, the more likely we'll be able to put that flag in your yard by obtaining a permit from authorities in Grand Blanc City and Township.
If not for the appreciation shown every year by local residents in the west Genesee County, this project would have never lasted this long or reached such a level. We distribute Flags in nine other municipalities. Every year we receive letters, phone calls and cards thanking us for our effort and the flag that residents have received. Often Letters are written to local newspapers and television stations displaying even more support.
We Need Your Support...
In order to be successful in Grand Blanc, we will need the support of local business owners, youth groups and of course from local residents. We need people to voice their opinion and speak up to the Township Supervisor and City Major.
The annually benefit financially to kids has added up to be quite a sizable sum. In addition to the financial donation benefit, area residents have enjoyed the placement of flags in their yards on the 4th of July, every year for over 20 years.
Your comments and suggestions are always welcome. Should you have questions or if you would like to get involved or make a donation to this project, please call Judy Cox at 810-691-9109 or Randy Haney at 810-733-3435
As of July 4th, 2007 American Associates, Inc. Realtors, Local Business Owners and all of the many volunteers have given away over 500,000 flags.
